Today The Campus is a monthly magazine with a companion website. But back in the day, it was a newspaper — one of the nation’s longest running student publication — with robust content, including breaking news and controversies. Its reporters who would go on the some of the top posts in journalism, at The New York Times, Associated Press and various magazine and television outlets.
The Campus made news again yesterday, with a Black History Month article that appeared in the sports section by Rachel Swarns. On Feb. 14, 1949, sports superstar Jackie Robinson appeared at City College to speak about his hard-won gains in baseball. A photograph that never ran in the Times documents the event. But the Times would like to know more: Who was in the audience? What exactly did Mr. Robinson say to the crowd?
